April Classes For Beginners At OBS

  April Beginners Series at OurBodySpace Ampang   Would you like yoga to be a regular part of your life but you have just not found your rhythm yet?  In a regular open (all level) class do you sometimes feel overwhelmed?   Our Yoga Beginner 5-week Series is perfect for absolute beginners and anyone looking to strengthen the foundation of their existing yoga practice and is especially designed especially for this target group of students.   We will meet each Sunday in April to learn about the fundamentals of yoga. Building your familiarity, understanding, strength and ease steadily over the 5 classes so that you will feel comfortable to join a regular class afterwards. The 5-week series will systematically introduce the principles of alignment and breathing, as well as the practice of basic stretches, balancing and strengthening poses, and relaxation techniques.  Each week will build consecutively on what is covered in the previous class. The class size will be limited. You might want to consider joining our April Beginner Class Series at OurBodySpace if you have:  - Never done yoga  - Attended a couple of regular yoga classes but would like to slow down and learn the basics from scratch properly  - Attended any of our beginners workshop and then didn't keep coming  - Just started yoga and are enjoying it but still often feel lost in the regular classes  - Not done yoga for years and need a refresher to help you get going again   Here’s an outline of what the April 2018 series will cover………………….    WEEK 1:  We start with a short relaxation and deep breathing to centre ourselves for the practice. This first week you will learn how a yoga practice helps the mind, body and breath work together in unison.  We will introduce and practice alternate nostril breathing and explain the benefits. The different props often used in yoga class will be introduced and you’ll be shown common uses for them. After gently warming-up the whole body we will introduce and practice the Sun Salutation sequence and some basic seated and standing poses (standing forward bend, chair pose). The class will finish with a relaxing guided relaxation pose. After the class there will be time for group and individual questions.   WEEK 2:  We will start with a short relaxation and deep breathing to centre ourselves for the practice. The importance of the breath continues to be emphasized in Week 2. You will be introduced to more standing poses. When the body is nice and warmed up we will include some warrior poses into our Sun Salutations (Warrior I and Warrior II). We will introduce and practice a basic balancing pose – tree pose. We will continue to stay focused on the breath, learn about and practice the correct alignment for each pose (using the props if that helps) and learn something about the benefits of the different poses. The class will finish with a relaxing guided relaxation pose. After the class there will be time for group and individual questions.   WEEK 3:  We will start with a short relaxation and deep breathing to centre ourselves. We will learn how to use the breath to help expand and clear out our lungs through a cleansing practice (kriya) called shining skull breath. We will warm up with some nice stretching and continue practicing our sun salutation sequence. This week we will introduce and practice some poses that help to strengthen the back and improve flexibility in the spine. We will use cat/cow to warm the spine and try a balance from all fours. We will include a heart opening sequence (to open the chest and also for strengthening the spine). This week we will also add some twisting postures (standing, sitting and reclined twists). You’ll go more deeply into breathing technique while in the twist poses. The class will finish with a relaxing guided relaxation pose. After the class there will be time for group and individual questions and perhaps a chance to chat about how you can take your yoga ‘off the mat’ and use in everyday life.    WEEK 4:  We will start with a short relaxation and deep breathing to centre ourselves for the practice. We will warm up and practice our kriya – shining skull breath - and practice alternate nostril breathing. Then we will move into a series of our Sun Salutations – focusing on the idea of breath to movement and starting to discover a real sense of flow and ease in the sequence. We will practice some seated forward bends followed by the heart opening poses from week three. We will introduce inversions (with lots of modifications to suit each students’ comfort level). The class will finish with a relaxing guided relaxation pose and after the relaxation we will practice a short guided meditation. After the class there will be time for group and individual questions.   WEEK 5:  In this final week of the series, you will apply many of the things you’ve learned in the previous weeks. You will now be familiar with all the basic building blocks of a yoga class and we will work through a full class starting with our breath/energy flows, sun salutations, forward and back bends, twists and balance poses and an inversion. You will be able to experience what it feels like to practice moving through the yoga asana (poses) with steadiness and ease. The class will finish with a relaxing guided relaxation pose and after the relaxation and time for group or individual questions. We will also talk about the different yoga class styles/classes and which might suit you best.   There are no barriers to entry for yoga .
